The Strypes

OK, so - here goes. You need to give these young lads a moment or two of your time. They're called The Strypes and they hail from Cavan in Ireland. They are just fourteen years old and at the moment are primarily a band that does covers. This is their version of The Beatles "You Can't Do That" which was their first single, released last July.

Last month, they released their first EP called "Young, Gifted and Blue" on the EmuBands label. You can get it from the usual places and it's very well worth a listen. Again, it's just four cover versions - a couple of Yardbird's tracks one from The Birds and a Bo Diddley number but they're done with such enthusiasm and obvious joy it's hard to be critical about them. I think once they start to write and record their own stuff they'll have had such a solid grounding in the classics it'll come naturally.

Anyway, another one to watch...
